Materials we weave
Tap a fiber to see its general properties and where it is typically used in narrow fabrics.
Natural cellulose fiber
Cotton
- Soft hand and comfortable against skin
- Breathable and absorbent
- Takes dye well for rich, even color
- Chars rather than melts under heat
Typical narrow-fabric uses: Binding and twill tapes, ties, trims, labels and apparel tapes.
Ask about Cotton fabrics →Synthetic, high-tenacity filament
Polyester
- High strength with low stretch
- Good resistance to UV, abrasion and mildew
- Absorbs very little moisture
- Holds its dimensions well over time
Typical narrow-fabric uses: Straps, tie-downs, outdoor and utility webbing, ribbons and tapes.
Ask about Polyester fabrics →Synthetic polyamide
Nylon
- Very high strength-to-weight ratio
- Excellent abrasion resistance
- Some give that helps absorb shock loads
- Smooth, durable finish
Typical narrow-fabric uses: Load-bearing and tactical webbing, harness straps, parachute components and tapes.
Ask about Nylon fabrics →Lightweight synthetic olefin
Polypropylene
- One of the lightest textile fibers (it floats)
- Resists water, many chemicals and mildew
- Cost-effective for high-volume uses
- Lower heat tolerance than nylon or polyester
Typical narrow-fabric uses: Bag handles, light-duty straps, marine and outdoor webbing.
Ask about Polypropylene fabrics →Para-aramid high-performance fiber
Kevlar®
- Exceptional tensile strength for its weight
- High cut and abrasion resistance
- Does not melt; holds strength at high temperatures
- Best protected from prolonged UV exposure
Typical narrow-fabric uses: High-strength reinforcement tapes and webbing, cut-resistant and high-temperature components.
Ask about Kevlar® fabrics →Meta-aramid flame-resistant fiber
Nomex®
- Inherently flame resistant, not a coating
- Does not melt or drip; self-extinguishing
- Stable at elevated temperatures
- Durable through repeated laundering
Typical narrow-fabric uses: Flame-resistant bindings, tapes and webbing for protective gear, flight and fire apparel.
Ask about Nomex® fabrics →Fiber properties shown are general characteristics of each material. Final performance depends on construction, weight and finish, so talk with us about your specification.
